First thought:
He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. John 15:2 NLT
From this verse, it seems that God takes good things away from us so that we will bear more fruit.
Second thought:
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NLT
God prunes us so that we would become more dependent on Him and less dependent on ourselves. God allows loss in our lives for the sake of true gain. When we have grown too independent and have become proud, he humbles us and brings us back to a place of dependence. Why? Because He wants to give us the greatest good. He wants us to have and experience Him - the most satisfying, the most valuable, and the ultimate blessing of all.
My prayer is that God would give you the grace to persevere and draw closer to Him in this difficult time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
